Our Vision:
‘To be the Beacon for Learning’
Inspired by Matthew 5:14–16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden… In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Our understanding of this in our Federation is that it is our duty to provide opportunities for children to develop spiritually, morally and creatively and that this will shape their identity and lead them into a happy, healthy future.
We believe that every decision made in school should be rooted in what is spiritually, morally and academically right for our pupils.
Our Motto:
Learning Together, Shining Forever
Our motto, “Learning Together, Shining Forever,” expresses how we live this out. Learning Together reminds us that learning is not something done alone. We learn best when we support each other, listen to one another, and celebrate one another’s strengths. Shining Forever reflects our belief that what children gain here will stay with them long after they leave us—their confidence, kindness, wisdom, and hope will continue to shine throughout their lives.
This vision shapes every part of our school. In our teaching, we want every subject to spark curiosity and open up opportunities. We help children see the world clearly, think deeply, and grow in confidence. We aim to nurture character as well as knowledge, so children learn to be compassionate, courageous, and reflective—light-bearers in any situation.
In the wider life of the Federation, we create experiences that broaden horizons and help children discover their gifts. Our worship, clubs, visits, and enrichment activities encourage pupils to shine in their creativity, service, and friendships. The values we teach—friendship, joy, perseverance and respect—help children learn how to use their light to make a positive difference in the world.
As well as nurturing the light in our children, we believe our staff are also beacons within our school community. Each member of staff brings their own talents, passions, and strengths, and we create space for these to shine. Through professional development, collaboration, reflection, and shared leadership, staff are encouraged to grow, flourish, and use their gifts to inspire others. When our staff shine, the whole school is illuminated, and our vision becomes a lived reality for everyone.
This vision also guides our leadership and governance. Governors and leaders make decisions through the lens of our beacon identity, asking, “Will this help our children’s light to grow? Will this help the school shine for the community?” Resources, policies, and priorities reflect our commitment to helping every child flourish academically, personally, and spiritually.
As a Church of England school, we view ourselves as a beacon for our community. We want to be a place of welcome, support, and hope for families. We want our light to reach beyond our walls—through partnerships, service, and a strong commitment to helping our community thrive.
Above all, we believe that our children are beacons. They shine in their learning, in their friendship, in their creativity, and in their sense of justice. Our calling is to help their light burn more brightly, giving them the tools, confidence, and character to shine wherever life takes them.
“To Be the Beacon for Learning” is therefore much more than a statement. It is the heartbeat of who we are. It guides how we teach, how we lead, how we care, and how we serve— so that every child may learn together with others, and shine forever in the world.
Our Values:
We revisited our School Values in Autumn 2025 with all stakeholders who agreed on a set of 4 values they felt most represented our school community:
FRIENDSHIP JOY PERSEVERANCE RESPECT
Equality and Diversity
We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive Federation. For us at The Winterton Federation, equality means that everyone is able to participate and feel welcome and safe in the activities of our schools. This includes pupils, parents, staff, governors and visitors. Everyone should be able to achieve the best possible outcomes as a result of their participation. We believe that equality should permeate all aspects of school life and is the responsibility of all members of the Federation and wider community.
At our Federation, diversity means acknowledging that there are differences between people that should be recognised, respected and celebrated. We promote respect of each other’s differences and identities. We celebrate and raise awareness of diversity in our schools (particularly with us living in a predominantly white British area) and in the wider community and believe that teaching children about diversity prepares them for life in modern Britain.
At the Winterton Federation, we believe it is essential to provide a well-balanced, challenging curriculum for all pupils. Inclusion looks at the needs of all pupils including children with specific learning difficulties such as ADHD, pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties, EAL pupils (English as an Additional Language) and pupils considered to be more able.
Our aim is to provide all children with the best possible outcomes in preparation for lifelong learning. We believe it is important that children acquire skills, knowledge and confidence that can be applied to all future learning experiences, including social, physical and spiritual development. We endeavour to raise aspirations and expectations for all pupils by working in partnership with parents/carers and listening to our pupils.
As a Church of England School, we use the document Valuing All Gods Children to help us with our equality policy, but also a range of other policies such as anti-bullying, behaviour, SEND, Accessibility etc.
