Winterton Church of England Infants’ School
We are delighted to welcome you to the website for Winterton Church of England Infant’s School, where we shine together and learn forever, as the beacon for learning. We are one half of The Winterton Federation, and are incredibly proud of all the children, staff and families that form our unique community. We are a school family, who work for our families. Ofsted recognised this in January 2025: ‘Pupils and staff flourish in this caring school community. The vision that everyone here will grow and learn is truly lived out in all the school does.’ Winterton Church of England Infant’s School is a nurturing, creative, stimulating and supportive Church of England school, where we work tirelessly to support our children’s spiritual development. We have an open-door policy for all our families, so please come and see us in action.
“To Be the Beacon for Learning”
Motto: “Learning Together, Shining Forever” Inspired by Matthew 5:14–16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden… In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Our school vision, “To Be the Beacon for Learning,” comes from Jesus’ teaching, where He tells His followers that they are like a light shining in the world—a light that should not be hidden. Instead, it should shine clearly so that others can see goodness, hope, and love. Even if someone has never read the Bible before, the idea is simple: light helps people find their way, and it brings warmth, safety, and clarity.
We believe every child and adult in our school carries their own light—things that make them special, unique, and full of potential. When we speak of being a “beacon,” we mean being a place that helps every person discover and grow that light. A beacon stands tall, shines brightly, and guides others. This is what we want our school to be for our pupils, families, and community.
Our motto, “Learning Together, Shining Forever,” expresses how we live this out. Learning Together reminds us that learning is not something done alone. We learn best when we support each other, listen to one another, and celebrate one another’s strengths. Shining Forever reflects our belief that what children gain here will stay with them long after they leave us—their confidence, kindness, wisdom, and hope will continue to shine throughout their lives.
This vision shapes every part of our school. In our teaching, we want every subject to spark curiosity and open up opportunities. We help children see the world clearly, think deeply, and grow in confidence. We aim to nurture character as well as knowledge, so children learn to be compassionate, courageous, and reflective—light-bearers in any situation.
In the wider life of the school, we create experiences that broaden horizons and help children discover their gifts. Our worship, clubs, visits, and enrichment activities encourage pupils to shine in their creativity, service, and friendships. The values we teach—friendship, joy, perseverance and respect—help children learn how to use their light to make a positive difference in the world.
As well as nurturing the light in our children, we believe our staff are also beacons within our school community. Each member of staff brings their own talents, passions, and strengths, and we create space for these to shine. Through professional development, collaboration, reflection, and shared leadership, staff are encouraged to grow, flourish, and use their gifts to inspire others. When our staff shine, the whole school is illuminated, and our vision becomes a lived reality for everyone.
This vision also guides our leadership and governance. Governors and leaders make decisions through the lens of our beacon identity, asking, “Will this help our children’s light to grow? Will this help the school shine for the community?” Resources, policies, and priorities reflect our commitment to helping every child flourish academically, personally, and spiritually.
As a Church of England school, we view ourselves as a beacon for our community. We want to be a place of welcome, support, and hope for families. We want our light to reach beyond our walls—through partnerships, service, and a strong commitment to helping our community thrive.
Above all, we believe that our children are beacons. They shine in their learning, in their friendship, in their creativity, and in their sense of justice. Our calling is to help their light burn more brightly, giving them the tools, confidence, and character to shine wherever life takes them.
“To Be the Beacon for Learning” is therefore much more than a statement. It is the heartbeat of who we are. It guides how we teach, how we lead, how we care, and how we serve— so that every child may learn together with others, and shine forever in the world.
